    How does the cookie work?

The cookie features a proprietary blend of protein, amino acids and fiber which are naturally filling and hunger-controlling. The cookies are all natural and made with the best organic ingredients on the market. They contain no additives, preservatives, chemical appetite suppressants or artificial sweeteners. We also feature shakes, soups and muffins which may be used in place of a cookie. These products also contain a proprietary blend of protein fiber and amino acids. (Back to the top)

Is a doctor or nurse practioner really involved in this program?

Absolutely! We feel that one-on-one medical supervision is a vital part of the program. Patients consult with our nurse practitioner every four weeks. Each client is medically evaluated and a program is designed specifically for him or her based on lab and EKG results. Our program provides our patients with the tools needed to assist them in “re-training” their eating habits as they eat six small meals in the form of the Smart Cookie throughout the day. The cookies, combined with adequate water intake, a substantial, healthy evening meal and the proper nutritional vitamins and supplements allow our patients to reach their goals quickly and safely. Are there alternatives to the full medical program?

Here at the Maitland Center, we offer several options to assist you in your weight loss. In addition to the full Medical Program, you may opt to see one of our trained Medical Assistants. Patients on this program consume more calories per day – a total of 1200 – and will still be required to have a medical visit every four weeks. (Back to the top)

How do Smart for Life patients maintain their weight loss?

We have a unique philosophy about “maintenance.” It is our belief that a client begins “maintenance” from the first day that they start our program. This is achieved by the nature of the program itself which encourages our patients to come into the centers for weekly weigh-ins and body composition checks as well as medical consultations at least once a month thereby creating behavioral reinforcement. The cookies themselves shift eating habits so that patients are eating several smaller, high protein meals each day; which most nutritionists recommend as the proper way to eat. Additionally, during each visit, we educate our patients with the most up-to-date scientifically based health information. By the time our patients have achieved their goal weight, they are well armed with the tools they need to keep their weight off.
We also provide detailed information for our maintenance patients enabling them to readjust to life on their own. In addition, we offer follow-up visits at one, three and six months after our patients reach their goal weight to further ensure that they are staying “on track.” (Back to the top)

How do I begin the program?

To begin the full medical program, we require a medical evaluation , an EKG and lab work. There is an initial fee for the first month which includes this. A monthly fee is required in addition to the cost of the products.
The modified version – opting to see a Medical Assistant – requires no lab work or initial medical evaluation. There is a monthly fee in addition to the products.
No contract is necessary in either case – your time on the program is determined by your own goals. (Back to the top)
